SEO and GEO: what’s the difference, and where should you start?

Search accounted for 73% of visits across our ten sites. AI assistants sent less than 1%, but those visits were more likely to trigger a contact goal.

SEO helps buyers find a page in Google or Yandex. GEO focuses on whether an assistant can use that page to answer a question. Start by making the page accessible, then give it the facts a buyer needs to make a decision.

What the numbers say

Across ten sites and 11,449 visits, search accounted for 73% of traffic and most recorded contacts. Direct traffic accounted for 20%. AI assistants sent just 0.8% of visits, but 30% of those visits triggered a contact goal.

Where to start

  1. Technology. Text in HTML, fast loading, a sitemap, robots.txt open to search and AI crawlers.
  2. Demand. What buyers search for and how.
  3. Page structure. A page for every product, city or country and frequent question.
  4. Content for AI search. schema.org markup, question-and-answer blocks, llms.txt, company facts.
  5. Indexing. Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster, Yandex Webmaster, IndexNow.
  6. Measurement. Goals and a monthly report by source.
