Why a website gets traffic but few enquiries: six patterns from ten sites
Visits can look healthy even when the phone stays quiet. Our data shows what changes when a buyer lands on a relevant service page or a delivery page for their town.
Across ten sites, we recorded 11,449 visits and 740 contacts over five months. Six patterns stood out when we looked at the pages people visited before getting in touch.
1. Buyers searching for a specific service land on the home page
On the Vehart industrial service site the home page got 447 visits and converted under 1%. The “Caterpillar repair” page converted at 15%. A person looking for a specific repair wants to see exactly that.
2. Traffic from places you do not serve
On Drova Nevy, visitors from Saint Petersburg converted at 17.2%, from Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk at 0%. Articles are read across the country, but only people inside the delivery area can buy. Measure conversion for your own region.
3. An article with no next step
Articles attracted 62% of visits to Drova Nevy. A contact goal fired in 2.1% of article visits, about 87 in total. Give readers a practical next step, such as checking their town’s delivery price or asking about an order.
4. Mobile visitors struggle to find the contact details
78% of visits are from smartphones, and they convert better than desktops: 8.4% versus 3.8%. Call and messenger buttons are pinned to the bottom of the screen.
5. No goals, so you do not know what works
Without analytics goals you cannot see which pages and sources bring contacts. We track calls, messenger clicks, form submissions and email clicks.
6. Buyers contact you directly, outside the website
Some buyers write straight to WhatsApp or email. On AEROPONICS.FARM three enquiries from three countries came by email, and analytics did not see them. Ask every client how they found you.
